Default What is the Fastes and best way to gain skill points

Sorry if this has already been posted but I could not find this by using search.

I am picking up my brothers account. all of his characters are level 20. However, he does not have all of the skills for his professions.

First off I noticed that to buy the skills is now 1000 plat ( way high ) is this because they are all level 20 ?

2nd What is the best way to gain skill points so that I can purchase all of the skills for all of the professions.

3rd. I am confused. I thought that once you unlocked skills for a profession that skill would be unlocked for that profession no matter what ?
there is an ele/mes and then a war/ele. and some of the skills that are unlocked for the ele/mes are not available for the ele on the war/ele ?

If someone can help me with these question I would be greatful.

You mean one (1) platinum, or 1000g.

It's because he's bought many skills already. Each new skill bought from a skill trainer increases in cost.

An easy way to gain skill points is to farm for experience points by doing repeatable quests (like "Cold One" and "Gathering Resources" in Sorrow's Furnace when Galen Trask is activated - 1500XP each). Or join a group and do the quests in the Underworld or Fissure of Woe - a lot of experience to be gained that way. Only need...15,000XP experience points until you gain a skill point. (?)

Skills are unlocked per character. Skills that you have for the E/Me don't automagically appear on the W/E.

Everytime you buy a skill point the price goes up a bit, like 100 the first time, 125 the 2nd and ect... Now that it is 1k a skill it will lock at that and stay there. It's because your brother bought skills instead of getting them then buying the ones you cannot get after.

When you make a E/Mo in PvE and unlock skills then make another E/Mo or a Mo/E the skills are only unlocked for PVP not all chars.

Guess you beat me too it koneko, by the way one platinum is the same as saying 1k or 1000g.

1st, they're 1 plat becuase he already bought skills. The price increases each time you buy skills, but I believe t caps at 1k.
2nd, make sure the skills you want aren't available through quests. If you can quest to get them as rewards, then do that! ...even at lvl 20 you never know if he missed a quest.
The ele skills you are questioning. As I said above, some quests may have been missed, there are a couple that I believe only unlock for a primary profession.
It sounds like your brother spent his skill points and his gold to unlock a bunch of skills. The skills unlocked by a character will unlock them for all PvP builds however, it will NOT unlock it for all of your PvE characters. Each skill must be aquired for an individual PvE character to use. - I hope that made sense.

At lvl 20. Look for missions that aren't done. I would also suggest farming.
My Main is a W/mo and I've leveled 20 at least 10 times now... I still have a few missions to do, but farming a bit has made it easy to "level up" and aquire new skill points if I need.

PLEASE NOTE

see what skills are missing and decide if you need them.

then choose only the ones you actually need now

Skills, once unlocked, are unlocked in terms of the account, and thereby accessible to any PvP character you may have, but are not common to each PvE character.

So in your example, unlocking an ele skill on one charcter means that any future PvP characters will have access to it, but the war/ele will have to re-unlock that same skill in order to use it.

Bear in mind that once unlocked on a PvE character, switching secondary professions back and forth does not affect the skill list for that character. So the warrior, once shock, for example, was unlocked, can change secondary to mesmer, then back again to ele and shock will still be available.

As noted above, popular methods of grinding xp are UW/FoW, Sorrows Furnace, or solo farming.

If your interest lies in unlocking skills for PvP purposes, faction can also be used, but skills and items unlocked using faction are not availble to the various PvE characters that may exist on an account.

You could always backtrack and make sure your brother has done all of the quets that give skills as a reward. He may have missed some e.g. Fisherman's Haven and it would be worth it if you are saving 1k per skill. I'm sure some will say, however, that with the time it takes to do these quests you could be earning more money to buy them anyway.....

You can solo figure out a nice solo build and go farm alone. Buy some 250% exp scrolls and you'll lvl in no time. (depends where you're farming)

If you don't mind doing Dragons Lair over and over if/when you kill Grenth at the end she gives up 14,000 experience. Not quite a skill but darn close. It also takes a pretty good group to kill her/him/it. But, it's doable.

Also, switch to each secondary class, and go back to Ascalon and look around for first few beginner quests. You'll find them in Ascalon City, outside of the city, Sardelac, Serenity Temple, etc.. You can get the first 8 to 10 basic skills per profession in this fashion. I think its pretty much all the ones you could have gotten Pre-Searing.

I thought of another way I was getting a ton of experience:

5 man Orozar farming in Sorrows Furnace. You get a lot of Enslavement Stones and Dredge Manifesto's in which you can trade for Adventurer & Hero's scrolls for the next run. The full run is easily worth a skill point(8K from quest + monsters), not to mention the gold you'll need to buy skills.

Took my 3 main characters from 500K Exp to a million in a couple months I believe.

This is a good question...
Especially with Chapter 2 coming out, and Chapter 1 characters that need to gain a BUTTLOAD (is that even a word?) of XP to get skillpoints for unlocking.

.....

I really have no idea what is the fastest way for a pve char...
good chance I'll just Faction unlock it mostly..

If I wanted to burn some exp, i'd buy some +exp scrolls and then kill trolls north of Droknars over and over. They drop junk, so they're only good for exp anyway. +168xp per troll at level 20, and there's always around 12 in the main cave.

Another exp point booster and money saving tip to get lower level chars experience is to buy the scrolls in the desert outposts with your higher level characters. They are much cheaper in the desert than they are in Lions Arch or Henge. Pass them to the lower level characters that can't get to the desert through your storage. One of those gives you 10 minutes of 50% experience boost and gets them leveled up faster.

Another tip- the scrolls that drop in the desert for experience are worth a lot more in Henge or Lions Arch at the rare scroll trader. If you sell them in the desert they are not worth as much. That only applies to the gold ones. The blue ones sell for the same price everywhere but can only be bought in the desert and beyond.
